Kiki is Back

Kiki, one of my male cats, is now back again after missing for almost a year. He is now recovering from an abscess on his neck. Since the day he came back, he has always been calm at home and around the yard. And he has been wanting to eat much but he cannot do it due to his abscess. For now, his favorite dish is fish broth.

On the first day of his coming back, Keni, his brother, was furious at Kiki. But Kiki didn't want to have conflicts with Keni, so he always kept a distance when Keni was around. And when Kiki met Domi, the oldest cat, Kiki showed no signs of fear, anger, or hate. Domi still looked patient when he saw Kiki. Meanwhile, Gogon, the newcomer cat, was so afraid when he saw Kiki. Kiki also hissed at Gogon. I understand this because Kiki never met Gogon before.

The surprising thing came from Gembul's reaction when he saw Kiki for the first time. He sniffed Kiki's nose and Kiki sniffed back. I couldn't say whether they looked confused or amazed at each other. But both of them didn't show any dislike. After sniffing, they were just making a distance; no howling nor hissing. So, I just thought that they smelled their relationship: Kiki knew that Gembul was his nephew and Gembul knew that Kiki smelled like his mother, Krisi.

It has been almost a week since Kiki's coming back. And I see some good progress: Gogon often lays down beside Kiki to relax, Keni also keeps a distance from Kiki when eating, pretending not to see Kiki, and Kiki's energy is slowly back with the help of Gembul and Gogon's cheerfulness. And for Kiki's abscess, I am sure that it can heal because every cat knows how to heal himself or herself.

Lesson learned from Kiki: Though how far and how long you go away, you will always know how to go home, and you will finally go home.
