There is Nothing Wrong with Being Quiet

Quiet persons are often judged as shy, boring, uncommunicative, and incompetent. Yes, it's true that they don't communicate much. Yes, it's also true they often look shy or they are actually shy. But when they are judged as incompetent, that hurts them so bad. When they are judged as boring, they may even judge talkative persons boring.

I've heard many teachers complaining about having passive, quiet students (though sometimes they complain too if they cannot control their crowded students 😅). Those teachers think that they face a big problem if their students are very quiet. They are less motivated to teach if their students don't show their energy.

Don't those teachers ever think that those quiet students' brain has much more energy than their mouth? Their mouth doesn't want to open if they realize that there will be so many other students listening to them. Their brain actually has so much to say, but because they don't want to be the center of attention, they choose to be silent.

I remember when I was at my high school. The school sent me to join a vocational competition. I got the best five. When I brought my trophy to school, one of my teachers said to me, "Retno, you could have become the first, second, or third champion if you had given more answers in the interview test."

Hearing that statement, I just smiled, but I screamed at heart, "I didn't even want to join that exhausting competition!!"

So, let us not misjudge. Every student, quiet or not, must have something bright in their brain. They are born not to be underestimated, but to be appreciated.
